1. Introduction
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the brightloaf mobile application, website, and any related services (together, the “Services” or the “App”).
brightloaf is operated by Brightloaf Ltd trading as brightloaf (“brightloaf”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), a company registered in England and Wales (Company Number 14368102) with its registered office at 167–169 Great Portland Street, 5th Floor, London, W1W 5PF.
By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the App.
2. What brightloaf provides
brightloaf is a digital mental health platform designed to support emotional wellbeing through:
- Psychoeducational content and tools
- Daily check-ins and personalised insights
- AI-supported summaries and recommendations (“Glow”)
- Regularly published editorial content connecting current events to wellbeing (“The Pulse”)
- Short-form therapy sessions (“Therapy Sessions”), where available
brightloaf is designed to support reflection and learning. It is not a medical or emergency service.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use the App.
By using the App, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
4. Geographic availability
4.1 United Kingdom:
Therapy Sessions are currently available only to users located in the United Kingdom.
4.2 International users:
If you are located outside the UK:
- You may access all App features except Therapy Sessions
- You may subscribe and use non-therapy features
- Therapy availability will expand over time
- You may register interest in bringing therapy to your region via in-app tools. This does not guarantee availability or timing.
International subscribers receive the same introductory session benefits once therapy becomes available in their region.
5. Subscriptions and membership
5.1 Free and paid access:
brightloaf offers both free and paid access.
Free users can access:
- Limited psychoeducational content and tools
- Daily check-ins and partial Glow features
- Preview access to The Pulse (see Section 10)
Subscribers unlock:
- Full access to all content and tools
- Full Glow features
- Full access to The Pulse
- Reduced pricing on Therapy Sessions
- Introductory session benefits (see Section 6.3)
Subscription pricing varies by region and is displayed in the App before purchase.
5.2 Founding Members:
The first 1,000 subscribers are designated Founding Members.
Founding Members lock in their subscription price for life. This benefit is retained only while the subscription remains active. If a Founding Member cancels or lets their subscription lapse, they lose Founding status and the locked-in price permanently.
5.3 Billing:
Subscriptions are billed in advance and renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date.
Payments are processed via Apple Pay, Google Play, or Stripe.
5.4 Cancellation of subscriptions:
You may cancel at any time via your app store or payment provider.
Cancellation stops future renewals but does not refund the current billing period, except as set out in Section 7 (your statutory cancellation rights).
6. Therapy Sessions
6.1 Platform role:
Therapy Sessions are delivered by independent, self-employed therapists. The therapeutic relationship is between you and the therapist.
brightloaf facilitates booking, payment, and access but does not provide therapy itself and is not responsible for clinical decisions or therapeutic outcomes.
6.2 Session format:
- Sessions last 20 minutes
- Delivered via secure video or audio
- Availability is limited
- New sessions are released every Sunday. Members gain access at 5pm UK time. Non-members gain access at 6pm UK time. Session availability is not guaranteed.
6.3 Introductory and member session benefits:
- Monthly subscribers: your first Therapy Session is free
- Annual subscribers: one free Therapy Session per year
- Members pay a reduced per-session price compared with non-members
Session prices are displayed in the App before you book. Benefits apply while the subscription remains active.
6.4 Booking, cancellation, and credits:
You may cancel or reschedule a session up to 12 hours before the start time.
If cancelled within this window:
- The session is returned as a credit
- Credits can be used for future sessions
- Credits are not automatically refunded to your bank
You may request a refund instead by contacting [email protected] .
Late cancellations or non-attendance result in forfeiture of the session.
Credits expire after 6 months if unused.
6.5 No refunds for completed sessions:
Therapy sessions are non-refundable once they have taken place. If you are dissatisfied with a session, please contact us at [email protected] and we will do our best to address your concerns, but refunds will not be provided for completed sessions.
7. Cancellation and refunds
7.1 Your cancellation rights:
You may cancel your subscription within 14 days of subscribing, for any reason. This applies regardless of where you are located.
7.2 Using benefits during the cancellation period:
By subscribing, you gain immediate access to subscription benefits, including introductory session offers (a free first session for monthly subscribers; one free session per year for annual subscribers).
If you use any subscription benefit during the 14-day cancellation period, including booking or attending a therapy session, you expressly consent to the service beginning immediately. By using any benefit, you acknowledge that:
- You will lose your right to a full refund
- If you cancel, the full retail value of any benefits used (including sessions taken at a discount or for free) will be deducted from any refund due
- If the value of benefits used equals or exceeds your subscription fee, no refund will be due
7.3 Cancellations after 14 days:
After the 14-day cancellation period, you may cancel at any time, but refunds are not provided for the current billing period. Your subscription will remain active until the end of your paid period.
8. Payments and refunds
Except where required by law:
- Subscription fees are non-refundable once the billing period begins
- Missed or late-cancelled sessions are non-refundable
- Credits are non-transferable and hold no cash value unless refunded on request
9. Glow AI features
Glow provides:
- Daily check-ins
- Personalised insights
- Optional post-session summaries
Glow uses automated systems and large language models to generate supportive content.
Glow outputs:
- are informational only
- are not medical or therapeutic advice
- may be incomplete or inaccurate
You should not rely on Glow as a substitute for professional care.
10. The Pulse
The Pulse is a content feature that regularly publishes short pieces connecting current events and topics in the news to emotional wellbeing, together with practical suggestions for managing anxiety.
Access. Free users can see a preview of each piece (such as the headline and opening). Subscribers can access the full content, including the practical tools, reframes, and exercises.
Nature of the content. The Pulse is provided for general information and education only. It:
- Is not personalised, medical, or therapeutic advice, and is not tailored to your individual circumstances
- Is not financial, legal, or political advice
- Is not a substitute for professional care
You should not rely on The Pulse as a substitute for advice from a qualified professional.
Third-party news and events. The Pulse refers to current events and may summarise or link to third-party sources. We do not control, endorse, or warrant the accuracy or completeness of any third-party content, and references to news topics do not represent our views.
Editorial oversight. The Pulse is produced under the editorial oversight of the brightloaf team. While we take care over its content, it is provided for general information only and may occasionally contain errors, omissions, or out-of-date information.
Ownership. The Pulse and its contents are owned by or licensed to Brightloaf Ltd and are subject to Section 14 (Intellectual Property).
11. Session recordings
Sessions may be recorded for training, supervision, quality assurance, and safeguarding.
- Recording is optional and can be turned off in settings
- Where disabled, sessions proceed without recording
- Recordings are securely stored and deleted after a limited period
12. No medical or emergency services
brightloaf does not provide medical, psychiatric, or emergency care.
If you are in crisis or feel unable to keep yourself safe, you must contact local emergency services or a crisis provider.
Where necessary to protect life or prevent serious harm, we may share relevant information with appropriate services in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
13. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- misuse the App
- record sessions independently
- harass therapists or users
- attempt to bypass systems
- use the App in emergencies
We may suspend or terminate access for misuse.
We reserve the right to limit bookings where usage appears excessive, automated, or inconsistent with fair use.
14. Intellectual property
All content made available through the App — including text, graphics, design, software, Glow outputs, The Pulse, psychoeducational materials, and the brightloaf name, logo, and branding — is owned by or licensed to Brightloaf Ltd and is protected by intellectual property laws.
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use this content for your own personal, non-commercial use within the App.
You must not, without our prior written permission:
- Copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, or sell any content from the App
- Scrape, extract, or systematically collect content from the App, by automated means or otherwise
- Use any content to train, develop, or improve any machine learning or artificial intelligence system
15. Chargebacks and disputes
If you initiate a chargeback without first contacting us, we may suspend your account while the matter is investigated.
16. Communications and notifications
16.1 Types of communication:
We send two types of communication:
- Service Communications — essential messages about your account, bookings, session reminders, and changes to the Service. These are necessary to deliver the Services and may be sent where required even if you have opted out of marketing.
- Marketing Communications — news, tips, new feature announcements, and promotional content. We only send these where you have consented or where we are otherwise permitted by law, and you can opt out at any time.
16.2 Channels:
We may contact you via push notifications, email, and WhatsApp.
16.3 Managing your preferences:
- Push notifications can be turned off in your device settings or in the App
- Email marketing can be unsubscribed via the link in any email
- WhatsApp messages can be managed as set out in Section 16.4
You are responsible for keeping your contact details up to date.
16.4 WhatsApp:
WhatsApp messaging is optional. You are not required to enable it to use the App or to book Therapy Sessions.
You can choose to receive brightloaf messages via WhatsApp by opting in — for example, by ticking the WhatsApp consent box in the App. By opting in, you consent to receive both:
- (a) Service Communications via WhatsApp, such as booking confirmations, session reminders, and account updates; and
- (b) Marketing Communications via WhatsApp, such as tips, offers, new feature announcements, and other promotional content.
This single opt-in covers both types of message. You can withdraw your consent at any time by turning WhatsApp messaging off in the Profile section of the App.
Withdrawing your WhatsApp consent stops further WhatsApp messages. We may continue to send essential Service Communications by other means (such as email or push notification) where needed to deliver the Services you have purchased.
WhatsApp messages are delivered using the WhatsApp Business Platform and are also subject to WhatsApp’s own terms.
17. Your information and data protection
We process your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Some of the information we process (such as information relating to your mental health) is special category data, which we handle with additional safeguards. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, the legal bases we rely on, how long we keep it, and your rights.
18. Service changes
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features of the App from time to time.
Where changes materially affect paid features, we will provide reasonable notice where possible.
19. Therapeutic expectations
Therapy Sessions are brief and focused. They are designed specifically for anxiety support and may not be suitable for crisis intervention, complex mental health conditions, or all therapeutic needs.
Results vary between individuals and no specific outcomes are guaranteed.
20. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We do not guarantee outcomes
- We are not liable for reliance on Glow, The Pulse, or other content made available through the App
- We are not liable for therapist decisions
- While we endeavour to provide session availability, we cannot guarantee specific slots will be available at any given time
Our total liability to you is limited to the amount paid by you in the preceding 12 months.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability where it cannot legally be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
21. Account termination and credits
You may stop using the App at any time.
We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms.
If your account is terminated due to a breach of these Terms, any unused credits will be forfeited and are not eligible for refund.
22. Complaints
If you are unhappy with any aspect of the Services, please contact us at [email protected] .
We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 working days and aim to provide a full response within 14 working days. If we need longer to investigate, we will let you know.
23. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
Material changes will be communicated via the App or email.
Continued use constitutes acceptance.
24. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where local law requires otherwise.
Local consumer rights in your jurisdiction remain unaffected.
